A type of alopecia that does not scar or cause bald patches, Telogen effluvium is distinguished by diffused hair shedding across the scalp.

It occurs when vast numbers of hair decide to enter the telogen (resting) state at the same time, which occurs due to hormone disruptions and stress. Shedding starts after the new anagen (growing) hairs start to grow and thrust the resting hairs out of the follicle.

Telogen effluvium can be diagnosed in the following ways:

Scalp biopsy, which is the most effective and common way to diagnose effluvium. However it proves to be needless if the history is distinctive and even gentle tugs can result in many torn hairs in their growth state. Such are known as Telogen hairs and they are distinguished with the help of a white bulb and lack of glutinous hair cover.

Cases of chronic telogen effluvium may be induced by a metabolic reason. Proper diagnoses that include common causes should be carried out in order to acknowledge the prime cause. For instance, if anyone has any symptom of hypothyroidism, a thyrotropin test should be imposed.

Other counts include assessment of CBC count, serum iron, iron saturation, and ferritin. Iron saturation is the most famous sensitive indicator of iron deficiency.

Screening for renal and hepatic enzymes may detect a systemic cause of hair shedding.

A form of alopecia that does not cause scarring, Telogen effluvium is distinguished by scattered hair shedding across the scalp.

Hair has two phases; one called anagen that signifies the growth phase and the other telogen, that is known as the resting phase. During the telogen state hair remains dormant in the follicle until it is shoved out with the growth of a new anagen hair.

Telogen effluvium occurs when physiologic stress or hormone disruptions cause more then enough hairs to enter the telogen state at once. Shedding starts after the new anagen hairs start to grow and push the resting hairs out of the follicle.

Causes that trigger Telogen effluvium include:

Physiologic stress

Hormone disruptions due to pregnancy, delivery, diet changes.

Interactions with other medications or abrupt discontinuation of medications i.e. estrogen.

Febrile illness

Serious injuries to the scalp

immunizations

Papulosquamous scalp diseases such as psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis

Chronic diseases which include lymphoproliferative malignancy, systemic lupus erythematosus, end-stage renal disease and liver disease.

Telogen effluvium can manifest at any age thus it is not uncommon to see infants with such a disease. Women are more prone to encounter Telogen effluvium because they experience conditions for instance postpartum period which generates hormonal changes.

A pattern of alopecia that does not scar, Telogen effluvium is distinguished by scattered and strewn hair shedding across the scalp.

Hair normally goes through two phases one called anagen and the other telogen; the first being the growth phase and the latter the resting phase. Telogen effluvium occurs due to reasons such as physiologic stress or hormone disruptions which cause too many hairs to enter the telogen status at once. Shedding starts after the new anagen hairs start to grow and push the resting hairs out of the follicle. Telogen effluvium is usually seen more in women then men as they have hormone raging periods such as pregnancy, delivery and postpartum. It has no restrictions in age and is known to affect the tiniest infants as well. Other causes of telogen effluvium include: abrupt stoppage of other medications such as estrogen, chronic illnesses i.e. liver diseases, scalp injuries and infections, diet changes etc.

There is an overall disseminate shedding of the hair which leaves the remaining hair thinner and less dense then before. There are two types of effluvium: acute and chronic. Acute telogen effluvium is when hair shedding lasts less than six months whereas chronic telogen effluvium leads to shedding lasting longer than 6 months. Telogen effluvium also does not impose any sort of scarring nor inflammation on the skin of the scalp.

Incase of using the shampoo, apply abt 5-10 mL of the shampoo to the wet scalp and work it into the lather and leave it on for 3-5 minites before washing it off. Make sure that the shampoo does not come into contact with the eye of the eyelid and if that does occur wash the eyes thoroughly with water immediately. If you are using it as a treatment methods then use it for a period of about 2-4 weeks depending on the severity of the condition. If you are using it as a method to prevent hair loss then simply use it for one week.

Keep in mind that there are many factors that can affect the length of this duration such as body weight, medications and body conditions. If you have been recommended a dose by your physician that has not been listed here, always consult your doctor if you want or need to change the way you are taking the medicine.

Products like Rogaine Foam and Tricomin are examples of growth stimulants that help encourage hair growth. However even though they create new hair development, they do not stop the reason of hair fall which is why many combine DHT inhibitors with growth stimulants to achieve satisfactory results.

Hair growth stimulants work by directly stimulating hair growth and preventing the contraction of hair follicles. Its main goal is to boost the span of hair growth and increase thickness of each hair. Minoxidil is the best known agent of this class of hair loss treatments.

Natural growth stimulants consist of coconut oil which is a triglyceride and has a high similarity with hair proteins. It is able to easily infiltrate hair shafts because of its low molecular weight and straight linear chain. This form of hair oil greases the scalp and provides a silky feeling to dry hair shafts as well as healing the configuration of damaged hair and protecting it from destructive UVA rays.

Rosemary is another natural growth stimulant that is used as a natural hair conditioner, treatment for dandruff and for stimulation of hair growth.

Other natural hair growth stimulants such as lavender oil have proved to be effective against Alopecia and hair loss.

Hair loss is also known as alopecia areata. It is a symptom, and not a diagnosis.

Malfunctioning of the thyroid can lead to inadequate or excess release of hormones necessary for body functions. This symptom is known as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Hormones dictate the amount the chemical release such as in the case of a child development.

Hair loss is caused mainly because of the over release of dihydrostestosterone by the hair follicle. You should check your doctor if you are in doubt about your thyroid malfunctioning. Sometimes iodine intake and other medications are used for treatment. To understand the symptom, the doctor has to run several tests. You should only take medications recommended by your doctor.

It’s good to know that almost all the cases of hair loss are curable. Besides hair loss treatment, intake of vitamins and minerals, stress management and other alternative medicines can also give result.

If you are in hair loss for some time, then it would be a good idea to check the health of your thyroid. You have to be patient and focus on the results as it will take some time to reverse the hair loss.

By the time you are looking for the actual reason, you can use topical hair loss formulas containing DHT blockers, which will slow down and sometimes reverse the hair loss process.

Many men suffer from hair loss. Hair doesn’t grow back in men who suffer from male pattern baldness and gradually baldness area appears. Male pattern baldness can occur at any age. Baldness also doesn’t follow any regular pattern. Some men may experience baldness over twenty five years of age while other may experience for a time of five years.

Scientists have found a link between dihydrotestosterone and male pattern baldness. Many men appear bald because of genetic reasons. After puberty the number of testosterone hormones grows rapidly in men. Later this hormone is converted into dihydrotestosterone by an enzyme. The formation of dihydrotestosterone is very harmful for hair which weakens hair follicles and thus hair loss occurs.

Male pattern baldness also differs from race to race. Although many Caucasians and Afro-Caribbean go bald often, men from China and Japan suffer from minimum hair loss. In Native American men, baldness is very rare. On the other, almost two third of the UK men suffer from baldness.

Scientists are recently finding various treatments to cure baldness in male. However, some reasons for baldness are still unknown. For instance, no study could yet find why men who have beards and underarm hair have no hair on their scalp. However, there is hope that a cure for male pattern baldness will be found soon.

According to recent studies and researches stem cells can aid in hair growth. These stems are capable of producing different types of cells which are responsible for hair growth and follicle replacement. Besides, they play an important role in restoring a body’s tissues like hair follicles.

According to a research conducted by the University Of Pennsylvania stem cells are responsible for hair growth. These researches separated stems cells from hair follicles and conducted a test. It was found that normally hair follicles work in cycles. People who don’t have hair loss problems go through three normal periods’ growth, rest and regrowth. On the other hand, those who suffer from hair loss have abnormal cycles and hair follicles.

Another study has been conducted by some French scientists that showed the transplantation of stem cells can actually increase hair growth. To test this theory an experiment was conducted on mice. First of all, hair follicles were taken from a mouse which had healthy follicles. Later this was implanted back into a mouse which was having poor hair growth and weak hair follicles. After several weeks, it was found that there was growth in hair in the mouse which was previously suffering from hair problems. This experiment proved that stem cell transplant actually produces tissue regeneration and fosters hair growth.

If scientific experiments in stem cells are successful then in the near future there will various cures and treatments available for both men and women who suffer from hair loss.

The host body exerts a reflexive response to the infection. Based on the sensitivity of the host body, reactions may range from mild inflammations to chronic infections.

Symptoms of Tinea capitis have been noted to be as follows;

Aggravation of the infected skin area (itching, flaking, etc.)

Bald or balding patches

Swelling or irritated skin

Pus-filled lesions (sores) on infected skin

Small black dots on the scalp or area of infection

Tinea capitis infections exhibit physical symptoms in three various levels of infection;

1. Ectothrix Invasion: This type of infection cause the hair cuticle to be destroyed

2. Endothrix Invasion: This type of infection does not cause the hair cuticle to be completely destroyed but may cause breakage, leaving the hair stub

3. Favus: This is the extreme form of Tinea capitis. This type of infection causes flaking and corresponding hair loss.

The risk of infection from Tinea capitis greatly depends on personal hygiene. The fungi that causes Tinea capitis, thrives in warm, damp surroundings. Hence, a person with poor hygiene is more susceptible to Tinea capitis infections than those who maintain better hygiene. However, it should be noted that Tinea capitis is highly contagious, contact with infected skin or any other material can and may cause infection. Minor skin or scalp injuries can also increase chances of infection. People living in tropical regions are especially prone to such skin infections. People with diabetes or any sort of immune system disorders are also prone to Tinea capitis infection.

Tinea capitis infection is treated by an oral antifungal medicine intake.

Tinea Capitis is a superficial skin disease, caused by a fungal infection in the skin of the scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes. It is among the most common diseases in pre-pubescent children, though more evident in boys. Though it is rare in adults, Tinea capitis has been known to be found in elderly patients.

Tinea capitis is regarded as a form of superficial mycosis or dermatophytosis, and caused by a fungus, dermatophyte. Dermatophytes is a general label for three types of fungus that genereally cause skin diseases and infections in humans and animals. They are one of the most common infectious agents found in man, and can cause a variety of clinical conditions.

Dermatophytes have the ability to obtain nutrients from keratinized material. The fungal organisms colonize in the keratin tissues present in the infected area of the skin. The fungus, once inside the body, grows downward, into the hair, moving into keratin as it forms. As the individual hair grows, so does the area of infected skin. By day 12-14, the infection becomes clearly visible above the skin. The infected hairs slowly become brittle. By the third week, hair begins to break off, often leaving stubs of the hair roots. They (organisms) are usually restricted to the non-living layer of the epidermis, as they are unable to penetrate into the inner layer of tissue of an immune-competent (having a functioning immune system) host body.
