Propecia General Information
Propecia belongs to a group of compounds called synthetic 4-azasteroids. It is also referred to as specific inhibitors of steroids TypeII 5α-reductase, which is enlisted among intracellular enzymes. The main function of the medication is converting androgen testosterone to 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The medication is chemically represented as: 4-azaandrost-1-ene-17-carboxamide, N-(1, 1-dimethylethyl)-3-oxo-, (5α, 17β)-. The chemical formula of Propecia comes as: C23H36N2O2 and has a molecular weight of 372.55. The film-coated tablets of Propecia consist of 1 milligram of finasteride. Other inactive ingredients include sodium starch glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, pregelatinized starch, docusate sodium, hydroxypropyl celluloseLF, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, talc, ferric oxide (yellow), and ferric oxide (red). The medication is recommended for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). This is recommended for men only. The dosage of the medicine is 1mg once in a day orally. Propecia can be taken either with meals or without it. Daily usage for around three months or even more is recommended until any benefit is seen. Propecia are available in tablet form in 1 mg strength. These are octagon shaped, film-coated and tan convex tablets. A logo showing “Stylized P” is engraved on a side, and the other side has PROPECIA imprinted on it.
