Heredity is the primary cause for the hair loss in men. The hair loss in women is due to the hormonal changes like menopause thereby causing hair thinning. These conditions of hair loss in both men and women can be treated through hair transplant surgery. Hair transplant is the surgery wherein the hair follicles from a particular part is removed and are transplanted on the area of the baldness thereby promoting hair growth. There are three types of hair transplant surgery as follows:

1. Scalp tissue expansion is one of the methods for hair replacement. An incision is made on the scalp in which a balloon-type device is inserted. A mixture of salt water is filled in the balloon which causes the scalp to swell and stretch.

2. Another type is hair flap surgery which is the best method for the people having severe baldness. This method includes the cutting of the graft from the area where the hair growth is good mainly from the nape area and is replaced on the bald spot to promote the hair growth.

3. Scalp reduction surgery also known as advanced flap surgery includes the removal of the skin from the bald spot. This surgery is very painful followed by sensation of tightening of the scalp.
